MID met with City Coastal Management on Tuesday 03 October to discuss the process regarding the future of the 48 huts on the Muizenberg coastline. These are the next steps and your input is required!

Engagement with the City

  • The City now invites ideas and proposals for how the huts can be used in a manner that will take into consideration the overall maintenance and value-add within the space of Muizenberg coastline.
These ideas should be emailed to Gregg.Oelofse@capetown.gov.za before 31 October 2017.
  • Coastal Management will then review each and every idea and proposal, and prepare a report responding to each submissions in terms of the viability, legislation, etc. This report will be reviewed at the sub-council meeting on 20th November at 10h00 at Fish Hoek Sub-Council.
This meeting is open to the public and attendance is encouraged.
  • Based on the findings of the report, a recommendation will then be made on the way forward with regard to the huts.

The City highlighted that they recognize the iconic value of the huts, hence the current process underway to encourage participation and transparency.

As with all City processes, there are governance controls, so if you have strong feelings or great ideas you’ll need to make your submissions before the deadline and attend the public meeting timeously.

Bathing Boxes Brainstorm

In order to provide an easy way to have your say Safer Together and the City of Cape Town have also invited organizations and interested individuals to a “Bathing Boxes Brainstorm” on Tuesday 10 October, to generate creative ideas and potential solutions that will be workable for the City and the Community.  The meeting will be facilitated by Safer Together members, using the SynNovation approach to collaborative creative problem-solving.  The ideas generated will be shared with the City of Cape Town and with the community.

Organizations in the village and neighbouring suburbs are all invited – including MID, MCSI, FBTBA, FoMP, Muizenberg Historic Society, SAPS, business owners, Kalk Bay and Lakeside associations.  Space is limited and there has already been a good response – so people wishing to attend this community event must RSVP soon to Safer Together chairperson Melanie Burke at mabandassociates@gmail.com.

The workshop will be held in All Saints church Hall, Main Road, Muizenberg, from 17h30 – 20h00.

Your opinion counts – but only if you speak up and communicate your opinion!
