DRAFT INCLUSIVE ECONOMIC GROWTH STRATEGY (IEGS)

The City of Cape Town is in the process of finalising its Draft Inclusive Economic Growth Strategy (IEGS).

The IEGS is a high-level strategy aimed at achieving long-term inclusive economic growth through addressing a wide range of economic challenges that are felt at a national level, which include inadequate growth of the local economy, widespread unemployment, and worsening inequality – as well as the compounding impacts of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Inclusive economic growth is the only path to recovery from the deeply felt impacts of these challenges and the pandemic, as well as to achieve a better standard of living and more dignity for Capetonians. This strategy therefore seeks to address the challenges faced by the formal and informal economy alike, as well as to cater for large and small businesses and even entrepreneurs. It is crucial that members of the public be afforded the opportunity to consider the draft strategy and give their input.
