PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release
MID CALLS ON AUTHORITIES NOT TO ABANDON HOMELESS DURING COVID CRISIS
The Muizenberg Improvement District (MID) has called on Premiere Alan Winde to intervene in what is fast-becoming a human tragedy in the seaside suburb of Muizenberg.
Scores of homeless are now camped out in Muizenberg Park in what the Park’s Principal Inspector has described as a situation that is “out of hand”.
“I personally investigated this situation and the park near the police station [and it] is quickly becoming a tent city with displaced people coming out of Strandfontein Safe Space,” he wrote on 6 May.
This growing number of homeless in the park have no access food, clean water or ablution facilities, while only a few have illegally-erected tents to protect them from the encroaching winter.

This homeless community will now stage a protest on Muizenberg Main Road at 08h30 on Saturday 16 May 2020, calling on authorities to assist.
